Binhi English Literacy Foundation, Inc. (BINHI) recently held its 2nd Professional Learning Hub (PLH), bringing together BINHI teachers, from our partner public schools and development center, for a virtual session titled “Kumustahan: Reflecting, Learning, and Growing Together.”
Designed as a series of focused, collaborative online sessions, the BINHI Professional Learning Hubs aim to strengthen instructional competence in literacy education. By providing a platform for educators to share best practices, exchange actionable steps to overcome classroom challenges, and learn from one another, the program continually strives to enhance teaching strategies, assessment practices, and instructional mentoring to ultimately improve reading and writing outcomes for young learners.
The 10-Year BINHI Journey of Ms. Pamela Laurel
A highlight of the event was an inspiring sharing by Ms. Pamela Laurel, who reflected on her ten years of dedicated service with BINHI. Tracing her journey from a BINHI teacher to her current role as a BINHI Coordinator, Ms. Pamela offered a powerful testimonial on the impact of collaborative professional development.
She shared how her time with BINHI became a profound source of fulfillment, allowing her to witness not only the dramatic reading progress of her students but also her own professional and personal transformation. Ms. Laurel emphasized that the skills, mentorship, and leadership capabilities she cultivated through the program played a pivotal role in her career advancement and promotion, demonstrating that program implementation is both an ongoing learning experience and a deeply collaborative endeavor.
Tackling and Addressing Top BINHI Classroom Challenges in Breakout Sessions
Following the plenary session, participants transitioned into targeted breakout sessions led by BINHI Coordinators for Curriculum and Instruction and grouped according to their respective instructional Kits. These focused discussions gave educators a safe space to address the top challenges encountered during their initial month of implementation.
Through peer exchange and guided facilitation, teachers collaborated on practical, immediate solutions centered on three main areas: lesson implementation, behavior management, and the managing of instructional materials. These discussions reinforced the principle that no educator navigates the teaching journey alone.
Coaching and Mentoring: Guidance Over Assessment
The 2nd PLH concluded with an insightful discussion on the program’s upgraded Mentoring and Coaching Tool. BINHI reinforced that the mentoring tool is designed not as a rigid evaluation or rating metric, but as a supportive framework to guide and enhance the instructional process.
By prioritizing constructive feedback and ongoing pedagogical guidance, the refined tool aims to empower teachers, foster reflective teaching habits, and build a supportive environment for continuous professional growth.
The 2nd Professional Learning Hub served as a powerful reminder that effective education thrives on community, continuous learning, and shared leadership. By providing teachers with the tools, mentorship, and collaborative spaces they need to overcome initial implementation challenges, the BINHI Learning Program continues to nurture both its educators and its students. As these dedicated teachers return to their classrooms equipped with refreshed strategies and a supportive network, BINHI moves one step closer to ensuring that every young learner receives the guidance needed to cultivate a lifelong love for reading and writing.
