Empowering Educators: Utilizing Technology as a Tool for Teaching

While Generative Artificial Intelligence is still a relatively new concept, its help when utilized properly is truly undeniable. Recognizing this potential, Canva Foundation recently took a significant step in supporting Binhi English Literacy Foundation, Inc. (BINHI) during our third Professional Learning Hub on November 21, 2025 for our BINHI teachers followed by a generous donation of gadgets on January 22, 2026.

Teach Smarter, Not Harder

The session, titled “Teach Smarter with AI: Discover how Canva’s AI tools can help teachers design engaging lessons, save preparation time, and inspire creativity in every classroom,” was facilitated by Mr. Gelo Fabian. The workshop provided a deep dive into how modern tools can alleviate the heavy administrative and design burdens often placed on teachers.

Participants were introduced to specialized features designed for the educational landscape, most notably Magic Studio and Canva Code:

Magic Studio: A comprehensive AI suite that speeds up the creative process by focusing on instant content generation and intelligent editing.

Canva Code: A groundbreaking, “no-code” AI interface that allows teachers to build interactive, functional widgets. By simply describing the logic they want, Canva builds the underlying code, allowing for the creation of custom interactive games and reading drills that make differentiated teaching easier to manage.

From simple prompts, teachers can now visualize their vision by converting text into unique images, graphics, or videos, ensuring every presentation looks professional and polished.

The Heart of the Classroom: Teacher as the Architect

It is important to remember that while these tools are powerful, they are designed to be a tool for enhancement, not a replacement. Technology works best when it is used to spark curiosity and invite creativity among students. Ultimately, the voice of the teacher and the intent behind the lesson are what matter most. AI provides the canvas and the efficiency, but the teacher provides the heart and guidance that truly resonates with the learner.

To ensure technology remains a positive force in the classroom, educators must prioritize integrating AI responsibly through several key practices. First, it is essential to fact-check all AI-generated content, as these tools can sometimes produce “hallucinations” or incorrect information. Additionally, while AI serves as a powerful architect for lesson structures, teachers should strive to maintain personalization by injecting their own stories, local context, and student-specific examples to keep the curriculum relatable and grounded. Finally, the use of AI presents a unique opportunity to foster critical thinking. By showing students how these tools function, teachers can transform tech integration into a vital lesson on digital literacy and the enduring importance of human oversight.

A Gift for Public Educators and Non-Profit

A major highlight of the Hub was the reminder of Canva’s commitment to accessibility. DepEd teachers and non-profit organizations can access Canva for Education and Canva for Non-Profits for free. By registering their credentials, educators gain full access to premium templates and AI-powered features that might otherwise be out of reach, ensuring high-quality teaching tools are available to every classroom, regardless of budget.

For BINHI, this accessibility has proven to be a true game-changer, fundamentally streamlining how our team develops and distributes educational content. By facilitating real-time collaboration, our program coordinators can now design comprehensive lesson decks that are instantly accessible to teachers across Metro Manila and Calamba, ensuring geographical distance is no longer a barrier to quality instruction. This efficiency allows us to effectively standardize quality content, ensuring that our educators always have the most current and effective tools at their fingertips and guaranteeing that every BINHI scholar receives the same high-standard, visually engaging literacy materials.

Bridging the Digital Divide: Gadget Donations to BINHI

Beyond the transfer of knowledge, the Canva Foundation extended its generosity through a tangible investment in the future of literacy. In partnership with BINHI, Canva Foundation facilitated a donation of 23 tablets and 20 laptops for select schools and scholars.

This partnership was formalized on January 22, 2026, during an official turnover ceremony held at the BINHI office. The event was graced by Mr. Troy Pabico, Social Impact Program Manager at Canva Foundation, alongside BINHI’s leadership—President Ms. Luisa Bayot and Finance Officer Ms. Rosalyn Consing—together with the BINHI team. This donation ensures that the innovative teaching methods shared during the Learning Hub can be immediately put into practice, providing both teachers and students with the tools they need to thrive in a tech-driven educational landscape.

These gadgets are destined for select schools and scholars who face challenges in accessing technology. For these recipients, the donation a gateway to supplement teaching by allowing teachers to use Canva in real-time within the classroom; enhancing student literacy by providing scholars with the tools to practice reading through live tutoring sessions and interactive applications; and closing the gap by ensuring that students in underserved communities are not left behind in an increasingly digital world.

Through the synergy of AI education workshops and gadget donations, the Canva Foundation and BINHI are proving that when technology is used as a tool for teaching, the possibilities for both teachers and students are limitless.
