On November 9, 2024, BINHI English Literacy Foundation, Inc. (BINHI) held its second teacher training at Jose Rizal Elementary School in Pasay City, focusing on the crucial role of oral language and vocabulary enrichment.
Teachers from our 19 partner schools attended the event, gaining insights into Oral Language through the expertise of reading specialist Ms. Mary Rose C. Tuazon, alongside interactive talk-workshops led by BINHI Teacher Coordinators Ms. Izzah Caballero, Ms. She Lorenzo, and Ms. Kat Saliendra.
The training provided teachers with hands-on opportunities to:
1. Practice pronunciation of commonly mispronounced English phonemes and apply effective voice modulation techniques.
2. Use behavior-specific praise to encourage students and enhance classroom talk.
3. Understand the importance of vocabulary in literacy and techniques for introducing target vocabulary effectively.
4. Choose vocabulary words for direct instruction, using the 3-tier model based on student needs and lesson goals.
5. Explore word relationships, sample extension activities for revising vocabulary, and strategies for upgrading classroom discussions.
6. Apply oral language teaching strategies in read-aloud sessions, recognizing the kinds and aspects of oral language and its value in literacy.
This event also introduced two new members of the BINHI team: Ms. Kat Saliendra, the Program Coordinator for Curriculum and Instruction, and Ms. Gab Dato, the Program Coordinator for Internal Operations.
BINHI remains dedicated to equipping educators with tools and resources to make a meaningful difference in their students’ lives, and we believe this training brings us closer to that goal.
